Leather Care — The DEKVIO Ritual

Full-grain leather is not meant to stay new. It is meant to become yours.

Every DEKVIO piece is cut and stitched by hand in Jodhpur from full-grain leather — the highest grade there is. Unlike synthetic materials that crack and fade, full-grain leather grows richer with time. The marks it collects, the way it darkens where your hands rest, the soft sheen it develops — this is called patina, and it is the signature of genuine leather. No two DEKVIO bags will ever look alike after a year of travel. That is the point.

The First Days

Your bag may feel firm when it arrives. This is how structured full-grain leather begins its life. Within two to three weeks of regular use, the leather will relax and soften into shape. Light surface marks from the journey to you are natural — most fade with a gentle rub of your thumb.

The Care Ritual — Every 3 to 6 Months

• Empty the bag and shake out dust from the lining.
• Wipe the leather with a soft, dry (or very slightly damp) cotton cloth. Let it dry naturally if damp.
• Condition the leather. Apply a small amount of a neutral leather conditioner or balm with a soft cloth in slow, circular motions. Less is more — a coin-sized amount covers a large panel.
• Rest for 30 minutes, then buff gently with a clean dry cloth until the leather glows.
• Care for the brass. Hardware will naturally develop a warm aged tone. If you prefer shine, a soft dry cloth is all it needs.

Rain & Water

A light drizzle will not harm your bag — wipe it dry with a soft cloth and let it air-dry away from direct heat. Never use a hairdryer or place leather near a heater; rapid drying causes stiffness. If the bag gets soaked, stuff it lightly with paper to hold its shape and let it dry slowly for 24 to 48 hours, then condition.

Storage

• Store in the cotton dust bag, in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight.
• Stuff the bag lightly with paper or cloth so it holds its silhouette.
• Never store leather in plastic — it needs to breathe.
• Avoid hanging heavy bags by the straps for long periods; rest them on a shelf.

What to Avoid

• Direct sunlight for long hours (uneven fading)
• Alcohol-based cleaners, wet wipes, or household chemicals
• Overfilling beyond the bag's natural shape
• Machine washing — never
